6. Types of Human Cloning:

Mainly 3 types of human cloning have been described, which include therapeutic cloning, reproductive cloning and replacement cloning.
7. Therapeutic Cloning:

First type is therapeutic cloning, which entails cloning of cells and tissues for transplant into human beings.
8. Reproductive Cloning:

Second type of cloning is reproductive cloning, which is the process of production of cloned human beings.
9. Replacement Cloning:

Third type, mainly a theoretical possibility, is replacement cloning, which is described to replace a crippled human’s body with a cloned one along with brain transplant from the original body.
10. Previous Attempts at Human Cloning:

First attempt at human cloning was made in 1998 when nucleus from human leg cell was transplanted into an egg from cow. The resulting zygote from this transplant survived for 12 days but the embryo did not propagate further and was destroyed after 12 days. Embryo has to be 14 days old in order to be embedded in womb. Second attempt was made in 2008 when human skin cells’ nuclei were transferred to human eggs. These embryos were also destroyed during early stages of development. Main research in human cloning is being carried out in the field of therapeutic cloning and it is hoped that someday it will grow to be beneficial for human beings.
