Chain of survival is brief description of what should be the reaction to a medical emergency. Following is the short account of it in 4 easy steps.
1. Early Recognition and Call for Help:
Early recognition that an unconscious patient with running pulse or a conscious but seriously sick patient can go into cardiac arrest is very important so that technical help could be called for and cardiac arrest prevented.
2. Early Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR):
If patient is already in cardiac arrest then immediate commencement of CPR can buy you precious time until help arrives.
