Limb girdle muscular dystrophies is a group of muscular diseases involving skeletal muscles and causing proximal weakness more than distal weakness. These now have been further subdivided after availability of molecular genetic testing. There are two main types of these dystrophies.
A. Autosomal Dominant Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy:
Also known as Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 1 (LGMD 1) and is less severe than type 2 or autosomal recessive variant. It has been found to be clustered in families and more than one gene loci have been found to be affected.
